Mother's Day Mormon Messages: The Best Thing A Father Can Do For His Daughter Is To Love Her Mother

As is frequently the case, the hat tip goes to LDS Media Talk for this gem. As Mother's Day approaches, we have a new message. The best thing a father can do for his daughter is to love her mother.

The premise: Girls learn how men should behave towards women by watching their fathers behavior towards the women in their lives, particularly their wives. They learn what to look for in a husband. They learn to be selective about the men with whom they share their time, and, ultimately, the man to whom they commit themselves in holy matrimony.

Referenced in the video is a talk given by Relief Society President Elaine Dalton at the October 2011 General Conference. Entitled "Love Her Mother", Sister Dalton, specifically directing her counsel towards fathers and sons, said “The most important thing a father can do for his [daughter] is to love [her] mother. By the way you love her mother, you will teach your daughter about tenderness, loyalty, respect, compassion, and devotion. She will learn from your example what to expect from young men and what qualities to seek in a future spouse. You can show your daughter by the way you love and honor your wife that she should never settle for less. Your example will teach your daughter to value womanhood. You are showing her that she is a daughter of our Heavenly Father, who loves her".

Many women turn to feminism because of mistreatment by men. As we learn to mirror Jesus Christ in our behavior towards women, they will become more resistant to the false panacea of feminism.

I tend to think daughters love their fathers more and sons love their mothers more. A good example of a gentlemanly character that a man can show his daughter is love and affection so that when she grows she will have a good criteria to uses while choosing a husband.
